Based outside New York City, I am a passionate data scientist specializing in machine learning, big data scalability, and big data ethics. Recent projects include MLFairnessPipeline, COVID-19 epidemiological model simulations, and Cross-Model Cross Validation.
The term “machine learning” generates buzz and excitement, and rightfully so. I build and develop models to gain insights on data that escapes the human eye and make predictions about important events. The field is still in its infancy and I make contributions in hopes of driving us into the future.
In 2018, there were an estimated 18 zettabytes of data in the world. By 2025, we are estimated to have 175 zettabytes for a growth factor of nearly 10. As the volume of data we work with grows exponentially we need more innovative scalability and parallelization techniques. Using the Apache ecosystem I build distributed systems to process massive volumes of data in short periods of time.
We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what big data can do and my mission is to use data for good. Whether this involves combatting racial injustice, designing COVID-19 safety measures, or reducing traffic fatalities, I aim to always have a real-world impact.
Outside of the world of data I love to explore and get exposed to new ideas. An avid traveller, I enjoy learning about different cultures and beliefs and the world around me. Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China, and the Grand Canyon, are just a few of the magnificent wonders of the world I have had the opportunity to explore.
